It’s an awesome place to spend the whole day. I’m totally addicted to the ambiance of the book store. So many famous writers passed their quality time in this historic bookstore. Feel utterly privileged while roaming around the old & beautiful house.

Quaint little bookstore with a lot of charm and character. There was a short line up to get in when we visited an hour or two after it opened in the morning. Several of the Paris walking tours pass though this area and I think this is a stop along them. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside and be aware they do no permit any large bags or backpacks inside (I heard one of the people who work at the store tell someone there’s a bag check next store if they need it). They also do not permit any photos inside. We enjoyed our visit to the bookstore and given we were in Paris, we thought it fitting to pick up a copy of the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Famous Paris bookstore just across the Seine from Notre Dame. Fun to look inside, can get crowded and there can be a line to get in, but moves pretty fast. Most people buy a tote bag and a book or two. Upstairs is a reading room, not very quiet, but again, a fun and famous place to see. Worth about 30 minutes.

Oh my goodness, this place is incredible! We came to Paris for this bookshop! Great service, fantastic atmosphere and phenomenal selection of books. We had a coffee from the cafe attached and sat watching the building works on Notre Dame. Beautiful experience, highly recommend.

If you love to read, check out the English bookstore Shakespeare and Co in Paris's Latin Quarter!! They do not allow pics inside out of respect for patrons wanting to enjoy themselves and read in peace. The line to wait outside does get long since they keep track of capacity in order not to overcrowd. If it's hot out, bring an umbrella and a bottle. There is a pretty fountain of drinking water that you can fill up your bottle with. The selection of books inside is amazing! On the outside the bookstore looks small but once you're inside, it expands way back and there is a 2nd floor dedicated for indoor reading space I believe. I spent a good amount of time here trying to decide what to buy for myself and for friends. The unique thing here is that at checkout, they will gladly stamp their signature stamp onto your books, making them perfect souvenirs. Oh and their tote bags are cute and very high quality.

C’est embêtant de toujours devoir faire la file, surtout pour rentrer dans une librairie bondée. Il y a un chouette choix mais j’ai toujours l’impression d’être obligée d’avancer et de ne pas déranger les autres, c’est dommage

Lovely bookstore in Paris. As the name suggests, titles are in English and there's a huge variety of authors and styles. The place itself is very cozy and they even have a reading place on the second floor. People who work there are all nice and gentle. If you are a bookworm, you should definitely visit it. If you are not, you should too.

I'd been dreaming about visiting Shakespeare and Company for many years, and when my husband and I finally were there in May it DID NOT disappoint! From the lovely bookstore to the cafe, it was all wonderful. If you are in Paris, visiting this English language bookstore is a must. Just a heads up that lines can be long during peak tourist season, so going at the top of the day is a good idea. We visited three times over the course of three days and each time we were there, there was a quite a long line up. That being said, it's worth it to line up to experience a great place with a ton of history and excellent creative vibes. It's also a fun place to people watch and grab a coffee at the cafe.

One of my favourite places in the world. Lovely staff, amazing selection of books, and such an iconic and unique place. Now there’s a queue to enter both the library and the cafe but it moves quickly and once inside it never feels you are rushed.
