The new cemetery at Eragny-sur-Oise is a French civil cemetery containing several interesting tombs and monuments with a military connection. The crew of a British bomber shot down nearby on 7th June 1944 are commemorated here. Six have standard Commonwealth War graves Commission headstones. A seventh crew member has a memorial plaque. At the centre of the cemetery stands a rather garishly painted statue of a WW1 Poilu. This memorial was apparantly repatriated from Mondovi in Algeria and commemorates both the men of that town and those of Eragny who died during the Great War.The original Great War Memorial to the men of Eragny is at the rear of the cemetery. This impressive stone memorial was moved here when the cemetery was extended in 2013.Finally, against the front wall of the cemetery is a memorial to three local men lost during the Algerian war.

Thank you Thierry Grier - my poppy this year was dedicated to one of the airmen so it was poignant to see a picture of his grave.
