Viaduc De Lanespède

The Lanespede viaduct is 200 meters long and 35 meters high and consists of 20 arches. Work built in masonry. The bricks were made on the site and in the surrounding area, mainly in Orignac with clay, whose soil provides amply.The viaduct was started on May 8, 1865 and completed on April 1, 1867.The first train passed through the 1869 viaduct that transported the emperor who was heading to the Lannemezan camp.It is a work designed to run the train between Tarbes and Lannemezan. Since the viaduct was completed in 1867, its environment has changed a lot. Thus, in 1982 the A64 motorway was built under the viaduct.A stream that flows under the viaduct is hidden from the eyes of motorists. It's Lena. Although the creek is sometimes dry in the summer, it was large enough to operate a few mills in the past.The viaduct has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1984.
