Earl Domaine Castagnier

I first tasted Domaine Castagnier's wines in 1992, when a vigneron client from California and I spent a week driving from Burgundy down the Rhone to Bandol. Our first night, over dinner at Castel des Tres Girard (highly recommended), we had a local Grand Cru from Guy Castagnier. We asked the restaurant manager to place a call for us (pre cell phone era, for the most part), and the next morning, we tasted seven Grands Crus with Guy. My biggest regret is that we were at the start of our journey, so we couldn't stock up on wine that was going for $20 per bottle out the garage door.Over the intervening years, I have visited numerous times, meeting Guy's son Jerome on one of those visits. Jerome took over after his father's accident (and later, death). Jerome has given up some parcels (whether voluntarily or due to the expiration of a metayage arrangement with Domaine Newman, I don't know) and has added some others. His raw materials and winemaking are excellent. On my most recent visit, shortly before Covid struck, we tasted several wines and had the good fortune to be able to carry away a couple of bottles. They're not $20 anymore, but then, it's not 1992 anymore either.This is a very worthwhile stop and one that I have always found rewarding on both a personal and viticultural basis.

De belles appellations, j'ai eu la chance de pouvoir goûter plusieurs bonnes bouteilles.Large gamme et beaucoup de grands crus et ce à prix raisonnables.Vu la qualité de ses vins et son savoir-faire, il pourrait augmenter largement son tarif.

Excellent accueil du patron Jérôme et de son assistante Charlotte. Une belle adresse dans notre magnifique Côte de Nuits.
