T2000

This statue reminds me of the works of Geiger from Switzerland, or, the Han Solo in frozen carbonite scene from Star Wars.It is almost like humans are being cut in half and being absorbed into the stone. You might think this is some memorial for a war that has played out locally, but, it is actually the celebration of the anniversary of the 2000 year old city of Tongeren, in Belgium.Why is it standing here, you might ask? There are ten examples of this sculpture donated to Roman twin towns, and Metz was offered one in 1987.The statue consists of two blocks of concrete located face to face, one negative, the other positive, each taking the fragmentary imprint of a man and a woman, symbolizing the evolution, movement and eternity.This two-part sculpture was designed in 1985 by Raf Verjans.
