Hunter's Cemetery CWGC British Military Cemetery
Tiny, but beautiful, CWGC Cemetery situated inside the Newfoundland Memorial Park at Beaumont Hamel. The cemetery is actually the location of a large shell-hole in which casualties from the 51st (Highland) Division were buried after the village of Beaumont Hamel was captured by the 51st and 63rd Divisions in November 1916. The name of the cemetery is believed to originate from a Chaplain attached to the Black Watch, the Rev. Hunter, who presumably oversaw the burials.Only 46 men are buried here, 5 of them unidentified. Most of those identified, died on 13th November 1916 and belonged to one of the Highland Regiments: The Black Watch, The Gordon Highlanders, Royal Scots...)Interestingly, and possibly uniquely, the headstones are placed in a circle around the Cross of Sacrifice.

Hunter's Cemetery CWGC British Military Cemetery
