Anne-Elisabeth Chéron is a delightful teacher and host. My 2 weeks with her and her charming husband Michel were wonderful. Now that I’ve returned home, I been telling friends that I could not have crafted a better experience if I had made up every detail myself.And here are some details!Anne-Elisabeth is an excellent French language coach, who approaches each student in a very individual manner. She listens attentively, and determines the best approach for that person. Throughout the classes, she is flexible, creative, and very interactive. I have learned so much! My favorite part is learning how French people would say something. Google translate and dictionaries can give technically correct translation but is that how it’s really said in France? Now I am much more confident in my speech.I had my own apartment, with a private outside entrance, up a flight of stairs. There is plenty of space, with a small kitchen, and even a washing machine. My meals with Anne-Elisabeth and Michel were delicious, and took into account my preferences.A special highlight was a day trip to Nîmes. I unfortunately left my phone in Nîmes, which we discovered after stopping at a scenic vista about 30 minutes outside of Nîmes. Michel was cool, calm, and collected. He called my phone, and a man in Nîmes answered. Michel immediately set off for Nîmes, and I was able to retrieve my phone. It had been a long day, and everyone was very tired. But no-one made me feel awkward or careless. Michel and Anne-Elisabeth are very kind, warm, and both have great senses of humor. We laughed a lot!!Montpellier is a beautiful city, with historic buildings, monuments, and a lovely big public garden. The lovely Mediterranean weather was perfect. I picked the best French immersion program, with the best teacher, and the best location! I would go back in a heartbeat!

My daughter and I, each at different levels of French comprehension and speaking, spent two wonderful weeks in residence with Anne-Elisabeth Chéron. Mme. Chéron was quickly and effectively able to design a program that worked for both of us. And I can’t stress enough the importance of immersion – we basically spoke/thought/studied French from breakfast through dinner. The afternoon excursions were both fun and informative. Anne-Elisabeth would gently correct our pronunciation/sentence structure while we visited some of the many beautiful museums and sights in the Montpelier area. Anne-Elisabeth and her husband, Michel, also recommended day and weekend trips that my daughter and I took separately. For example, we visited Nimes, Arles, and Provence. We had a blast, and spoke French as we went. The separate living space in the Chéron home was very comfortable and gave us our own space to decompress. Finally, the meals were excellent and allowed us to continue practicing our French. Thanks to Anne-Elisabeth (and Michel!) for a wonderful and rewarding immersion experience.

Anne-Elisabeth is a very experienced teacher who creates a friendly environment to facilitate learning. She was able to quickly assess my learning requirements and my interests so that our lessons were interesting and at the right pace. It was great for my conversation practice to spend time with her family and our excursions gave me an opportunity to discover the area and also to immerse myself in the French language. The house is situated very close to the tramway which meant it was easy to travel independently to Montpellier which is a very dynamic and beautiful place. I stayed for a week and would recommend a longer stay as there is a lot to see and to learn. I certainly hope to return. Mille mercis Anne-Elisabeth !

I had the pleasure of learning French with Anne-Elisabeth in 2018. I learned so much with her and we had a lot of fun in the process. She is as attentive to grammar and pronunciation as you would expect of a trained language teacher but she also was also extremely attentive to my unique stumbling blocks. She quickly realized that the manner in which I ended my words was impeding my communication in French and making me timid to speak. And this is where she launched her attack:-) This is also where I began to really make strides. Instead of becoming intimidated when I was not understood it allowed me to stay the course in conversations which in turn resulted in everyone I interacted with in Montpelier taking an interest in my learning. Montpelier is a very friendly and beautiful city in which to learn French. The more you honestly try in Montpellier the more the people there help! And, after my time with Anne-Elisabeth I joined friends in Paris. We were at a cafe and the waiter stoped stared and said (in French) that I spoke French very well!!!If you choose to study with anne-Elisabeth you will have no regrets. Thank you, Anne-Elisabeth for a wonderful week. The apartment was super. As a traveller, I was grateful for my own washing machine and little kitchen. The excursions were wonderful, seeing Aigues-Mortes and the Camargues was just what I really wanted, and Palavas-les Flots, an exciting unexpected addition. The course itself helped to clarify certain misconceptions and helped me to further my fluency in French.

My wife and I had studied French online on Duolingo during Covid and had decided to take a spring bike trip in the south of France. We wanted to improve our French and found Anne-Elisabeth after researching home-stay French immersion programs. We hoped that we would learn some more French and some cultural things also. It was far better than we had hoped for.At the beginning of our trip, we spent 10 days with Anne-Elisabeth and her family in Montpilier. By the end of our stay, we felt more confident about speaking and understanding both the French language and culture. We also had a wonderful time and enjoyed getting to know our host family and the area around Montpilier.My wife was at about intermediate level and I was beginner level. I was so impressed with Anne-Elisabeth's teaching approach and her ability to simultaneously teach French to two people at different levels of competency. She also found out our interests and expectatations, then incorporated that into our instruction. As a beginner, I was happy that she corrected my mistakes so gently and with such good humor. My wife was thrilled to have all of her detailed questions dealt with so thouroughly.Almost as important as the language instruction was the cultural education. With the help of Anne-Elisabeth and her family, we were able to experience the area through the eyes of local residents. They took us shopping on market day, to a local junior opera their daughter had a part in, to local sightseeing destinations, etc. All of these activities were accompanied by French language reinforcement and cultural aspects that we would not have gotten any other way.Our stay at their home was extremely comfortable and convenient. The guest quarters have a separate entrance/exit, so we could come and go without disturbing our hosts. We shared many excellent meals of local cuisine and learned much about French culinary customs and history. This home-stay ended up feeling like a visit to good friends instead of a stuffy school experience.Anne-Elisabeth is an excellent teacher and so easy to get along with, as is her entire family. We were made to feel welcome and at ease the whole time. Her teaching style is focused and efficient. She identified our goals and our weaknesses, then worked through each of them to help us be more competent and confident. She answered all our questions and encouraged us to work hard to improve our French.After our stay in Montpilier, we bicycled for a month in Provence and were able to communicate with many people who spoke little to no english. We were also able to have conversations rather than just exchange basic information. It made our trip so much more enjoyable.In October, we visited Paris for a week and then biked in Normandy for 3 weeks, using lots of the things we learned with Anne-Elisabeth. My wife studied more than I did and she was able to have many good conversations along our travel route.It was a huge help to our French language study to stay with Anne-Elisabeth and her family, but it was also a wonderful cross-cultural experience. We cannot speak too highly of the richness of the experience or the benefit of the French instruction. It was a win-win deal for us and we savored the entire process.

Anne-Elisabeth was really great. Beside taking me the next step in my French lessons she help make Montpellier very special. Her location was a 1 minute walk to the tram and then just a 10 minute ride into the main square.....so convenient. Additionally, Montpellier is a wonderful city explore with all of its history, outdoor bars, restaurants and museums. I highly recommend Anne-Elisabeth!
