I have been a member of a club with my dog, Leon, a German Shorthaired Pointer, for three years. Initially, I had high expectations for the trainers, but over time, my enthusiasm dwindled. While some trainers are excellent, most are disappointing. They do not offer personalised guidance and treat all dogs equally. The exercises are repetitive, often long and boring, and having many dogs, there are long waits for your turn. There are no breaks between exercises, leaving the dogs with no time to relax or play before the next activity. Although many trainers are present, they refuse to create smaller, more personalised groups that could benefit the dogs and their owners. My dog is energetic, as most German Pointers are, but this is not welcomed at the club. Occasionally, he broke position to see other dogs, but this was rare, given that he is a young and playful dog. However, the trainers did not respond positively, often using punishment instead of positive reinforcement. They even created situations to make my dog fail, deliberately putting him in long positions and releasing him last to see if he would break position. When I refused to punish my dog harshly, they berated me and blamed me for his disobedience. They did not offer any advice on what to do with a dog that was interested in others, even though my dog was obedient and capable of doing all the exercises at that level. Instead, they downgraded him, which was supposed to make him less interested in other dogs.It is essential to note that this club was created for trainers and their friends to train their dogs for competitions, not really for the public courses. Although they claim to provide multiple types of courses, you will not be allowed to participate unless your dog is a Belgian Malinois or Border Collie and is already perfectly trained. When I asked about agility, I was refused, as it was only for competitions."Recently
