Cathédrale Saint-Louis-des-Invalides
Also known as the soldiers church, this cathedral honors soldiers and military personnel. Very beautiful interior, though not completely outstanding compared to the more lavish cathedrals out there. Free entry and great for a quick walk around inside. Budget 5-10 minutes visiting time.

The monumental dome is inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Les Invalides (French pronunciation: [lezɛ̃valid]), formally the Hôtel national des Invalides (The National Residence of the Invalids), or also as Hôtel des Invalides, is a complex of buildings in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, France, containing museums and monuments, all relating to the military history of France, as well as a hospital and a retirement home for war veterans, the buildings’ original purpose. The buildings house the Musée de l'Armée, the military museum of the Army of France, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, and the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine, as well as the Dôme des Invalides, a large church, the tallest in Paris at a height of 107 meters,[1] with the tombs of some of France's war heroes, most notably Napoleon.Louis XIV initiated the project by an order dated 24 November 1670, as a home and hospital for aged and unwell soldiers: the name is a shortened form of hôpital des invalides.[2] The architect of Les Invalides was Libéral Bruant. The selected site was in the then suburban plain of Grenelle (plaine de Grenelle). By the time the enlarged project was completed in 1676, the river front measured 196 metres (643 ft) and the complex had fifteen courtyards, the largest being the cour d'honneur (court of honour") for military parades. It was then felt that the veterans required a chapel. Jules Hardouin-Mansart assisted the aged Bruant

During the monarchy, the emblems taken from the enemy were exposed to the vaults of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. From the French Revolution ,they are gathered in the church of Invalides, wich ceases to be a place of worship. At the time of Napoléon ,the mass is reintroduced and, because of the numerous victories of the imperial armies, more than 1400 flags are deposited in the church. They were burned in the courtyard of the Invalides in 1814, during the invasion of France,on the orders of Marshal Sérurier ,governor of the Hotel ,so that they did not fall into the hands of the enemy. Ashes and remains are thrown into the Seine .
