We visit every year because we love this cottage and the location so much, not to mention its lovely owners! The cottage itself is well-appointed, comfortable and full of character. We only needed the two bedrooms but we rented three bedrooms this year just so that we had a bathroom upstairs and downstairs. The beds are really comfortable, with lovely bed linen. The kitchen has really everything you need, including a dishwasher. It’s set in a beautiful garden with fantastic views, and there is a lovely covered terrace where we spent a lot of our time. There is also a large and very clean swimming pool (with salt water so none of that horrid chlorine smell).Tayac is a tranquil and peaceful hamlet on the edge of Les Eyzies, so it’s an easy walk to restaurants and shops, and there’s even a train station. You’re well-situated to see lots of the surrounding area too.The owners, Chantal and John, are two of the loveliest people you could ever meet, really welcoming hosts, and so helpful. I had some French lessons with Chantal, who is just the best teacher, so kind and patient, and the lessons are tailored to the individual and lots of fun.I really recommend this beautiful cottage, and we will definitely continue to visit every year! Thank you so much, Chantal and John.

Our stay at Chantal’s B&B was very special. She is a very welcoming and charming host. The accommodation is in an authentic French homestead with stone walls and shuttered windows, which has been renovated to include modern conveniences, while retaining its rustic charm. Set among beautiful gardens with extensive sweeping lawns, mature shade trees, flower beds, fruit trees and a vegetable garden, all lovingly tended by husband John, is also a modern swimming pool where guests can cool off on those hot summer days. The wholesome alfresco breakfasts provided by Chantal among the trees in the crisp morning air were a delight. The B&B is situated in a quiet corner of this lovely small town Les Eyzies-de-Tayac which has at it’s centre the Museum of Prehistory, a must see. It is an ideal central location for exploring the wider Dordogne area. This is an exceptionally beautiful area of France with its many historic towns, pretty villages, chateaux, castles, vineyards, prehistoric caves, rugged landscapes, limestone cliffs and winding river valleys. Many of the nearby caves are open to the public and guided tours available at some, including the local Font-de-Gaume, and further afield at Rouffignac and Lascaux with their famous collections of prehistoric cave art. Canoeing is available locally on the picturesque rivers. As an added bonus, Chantal who is a qualified language teacher, also offers structured French lessons to those guests who are interested. Lessons are tailored to individual needs, from basic to advanced. Our highest recommendation goes to this B&B. We would gladly visit again.Christopher M.Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

I highly recommend Learn French in Taynac. Gite St. Martin offers comfortable accommodation within an easy walk of the charming village of Les Ezyies. I thoroughly enjoyed my week of French lessons which helped me to feel more confident speaking and understanding. Chantal is a patient and encouraging instructor, plus she makes great espresso! She not only teaches French language tailored to individual needs, but culture and customs as well. I'm planning another visit and more lessons next year!

Studying French with Chantal was a wonderful experience. Although I had a basic knowledge of French, Chantal helped me feel more comfortable with both conversational and written French. She utilizes many resources to enrich the learning process. I was never bored! We watched videos from a French TV site and discussed them in French. She showed me how to access these sites at home as well as giving me names of French novels which I could read. Chantal is a lot of fun, not intimidating but challenged me to break through my comfort zone and parle francais" ! I highly recommend Chantal to anyone who wants to learn or improve their French. Speaking the language makes your time in France so much more enjoyable."

I moved to France from the UK in 2020, and have survived since then with little better than school-boy French. I normally go to a 3-hours of French classes each week, but felt I needed something more immersive to engage more in French society and its wonderful culture.Chantal offered me a week of French classes, with 2 hours each morning and 2 more in the afternoon. We covered a mix of conversation, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading and French expressions. She was very skilled in working at my level and was patient with her corrections to my many mistakes. The lessons were intense but super-fun and I learned more in a week than in the previous 3 years. She was also kind enough to point me towards on-line self-learning study guides and TV programmes, so I can continue to develop proficiency at home.Chantal and husband John live in the beautiful village of Les Eyzies in the Périgord and have a gorgeous home & garden. Chantal’s study room is peaceful, warm and inviting, and she offers copious quantities of coffee, tea and Madeleines, which I devoured.I thoroughly recommend Chantal for anyone looking to step-up a level in their knowledge and use of the French language.

My husband and I enjoyed Chantal and John's beautiful bed and breakfast for a week and were amazed by the beautiful setting and their kindness as hosts. We also spent the week undertaking French lessons with Chantal, who is a great teacher - very experienced and very patient. I would thoroughly recommend the place to explore the amazing prehistory of the region, enjoy the wonderful food and wine and/or to learn or improve your French.

Looking for a special, magical stay in the Dordogne? Look no further – you’ve found it!We stayed for two weeks in May in this beautiful cottage in Les Eyzies de Tayac. We have visited every year for the past five years now, so safe to say we absolutely love it!The cottage can be rented with either two bedrooms and one bathroom, or with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are spacious, beds are really comfortable, and linen is always lovely. The living space is also wonderful, with a well-equipped kitchen. There is a lovely covered terrace as well as space to sit out in the sunshine too, and the views are just stunning and magical. The swimming pool and the garden are beautiful too. It’s a wonderful spot for peace and quiet, but also just a few minutes’ walk to some lovely restaurants and shops (including fabulous boulangerie of course) in Les Eyzies. The owners, Chantal and John, are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met, really friendly hosts, always there when you need them, but also really discreet in giving guests their own space and time too – the perfect balance really. They are very knowledgeable about the area too and there are lots of wonderful places to visit within easy reach. If you’d like to learn some French, Chantal is a great teacher and makes lessons lots of fun, regardless of what level you are at, and she is so patient. As I said, we’ve been renting this cottage for many years now, every year, and this year, we’re lucky enough to have planned a second visit in September. I adore the Vézère Valley, this cottage and its lovely owners and highly recommend it!
