La Borie

If your idea of a perfect self-catering vacation is well-equipped, flexible accommodation in a relaxing and private setting with good access to a variety of activities and places of interest, then La Borie will not disappoint!Nestled in the Dordogne-Lot region of South-West France, these two gites provide everything you could need for your stay. Each gite boasts a full kitchen, well-appointed lounge, en-suite shower and family bathroom, patio dining and a BBQ. A real bonus is the stunning swimming pool and surrounding sun terraces. The configuration works very well, especially for larger groups of friends and family. There is a boulangerie in the local village and a supermarket a short drive away.If you can drag yourself away from this tranquil idyll, then visits to Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, Gouffre de Padirac and the picturesque village of Domme are all within driving distance and are highly recommended, as is a boat trip on the Dordogne . And then there’s always the wine-tasting.......The hosts Steve and Bryony provide an excellent welcome/information pack. They are discreetly on-hand to advise and help if required, but are always respectful of guests’ privacy and preferences.

We’ve just had a wonderful holiday at La Borie, where the two gîtes were ideal for an extended family. The gîtes are in excellent condition with well-equipped kitchens, comfortable living areas and bedrooms, with a generous five bathrooms. The covered areas at the front are ideal for family BBQs. A lovely surprise was the size of the outdoor areas with pretty gardens, play areas and extensive grounds for ball games, alongside the good-sized swimming pool. Bryony and Steve are delightful hosts who have struck a perfect balance of being quietly in the background, but ready on hand to sort any problems (not that there were any) and offer advice on the local area.The gîtes are in a beautiful location on the Dordogne/Lot border. Surrounded by rolling hills and forest, they are still only a 10 minute walk from the pretty village of Frayssinet, where there is a bar, a cafe and an excellent boulangerie. There is plenty to do in the area from kayaking, river swimming and walking, to visiting some of the beautiful medieval villages and castles in the Dordogne valley to the north. We will definitely be returning next year and hope to explore the Lot valley to the south and return to the nearby vineyards with their excellent wine.Nick and Sue, Bedfordshire

Whilst the weather often leads to positive reviews especially when you go somewhere “for the weather”, it would be hard to say anything negative about La Borie Gites, their owners & co-hosts, the local villages and places to visit and all together “nice feel”.Visitors are provided sole access to the excellent swimming pool, their own private terrace and BBQ area, and ample parking.The hosts will organise canoe trips on local rivers and there is ample space for children to run around within safe boundaries around the property.Table tennis, boule, swings and even a trampoline are there for the young family members whilst the older visitors will enjoy comfy recliners around the heated pool just yards from their Gites.Less than hour away you are able to visit vineyards, excellent dining and superb markets perhaps synonymous with rural France. Of course self-catering allows you to sample produce and home cooking or whatever takes your fancy.
