Mrs French

As an intermediate French speaker, I wanted to take some time this year to learn French from a native speaker in an immersive setting. I found Sophie online and am so glad I didSophie was welcoming and friendly. She picked me up at the train station and communicated with me beforehand to help with the logistics of arriving in Bordeaux. The apartment I stayed at during the week was brand new, modern, and had all the comforts needed for a relaxing stay.My lessons with Sophie involved lots of conversation (which was a nice complement to the traditional textbook learning we typically get in the US). Sophie is very encouraging, listens well, and finds a way to make sense of broken French to keep the conversation flowing. This last attribute, I’ve found over the years, is such an important skill to have as a language teacher.I stayed for an entire week, and while I wasn’t able to go on any outings with Sophie (I am a student and had to attend class over zoom during the afternoons/nights) I am sure she would have been a great host in that capacity as well. Talence is a cute adjacent town to Bordeaux and I loved staying there because it was just a 15 minute bus ride to the big city and the bus stop is literally right in front of Sophie’s apartment.To end, Sophie drove me to the train station and I was sad to go! My French improved greatly in just a week and I am excited to go back to Bordeaux this summer and stay with Sophie again!

Nous avons passe une semaine avec Sophie et avons appris beaucoup de vocabulaire. Sophie etait tres encourageante, ce qui nous a permit d’ameliorer notre niveau de francais.Les cours etaient personalises en function de nos centres d’interet ainsi que nos niveaux de francais.Sophie organisait des activites pour nous faire connaitre la culture francaise et nous a emmenes a des restaurants typiques francais.Sophie est une super hote, elle a beaucoup d’humour et elle nous aidait toujours avec plaisir.Nous avons fait beaucoup de progres avec l’aide de Sophie a tel point que nous allons y retourner dans quelques mois.

Bonjour! I will write in English to make sure anyone looking to learn French will know what a great experience this is!I spent a week with Sophie in April and it was exactly what I was looking for in an immersion program. Sophie brought breakfast to the apartment in the morning and we'd talk in French. I wanted to specifically work on speaking, listening comprehension and pronunciation, which is what we did during class. She was very patient with me and I learned a lot (when I returned home, my tutor said my pronunciation was very good!). Lunches after class were delicious and a nice break before all the activities.I would highly encourage anyone who is traveling to Bordeaux for classes with Sophie to include as many activities as possible during the stay. We went walking in Bordeaux (which is stunning!), on a wine tour, to the Bassins des Lumières (which has a Dali immersion experience going with Pink Floyd's The Wall music - runs through January 2024 so make sure to see it!), a trip to Arcachon for the oysters (yum!) and to visit the beach, and the wine museum. All day we spoke French (well, I did my best!).The apartment is great, too. The bed is very comfortable and I loved being able to shop for food and make dinner. The people at the market were very nice and the neighborhood is very walkable.I loved visiting Bordeaux so much, I plan to return to the city next spring for a visit for a few days, hopefully speaking much more French. J'ai passé 5 jours très agréables avec Sophie, Mrs French. L'hébergement qu'elle proposait était propre et confortable. Sophie a enseigné 2 heures de cours de français par jour. J'ai beaucoup progressé ! Bordeaux est une ville intéressante et historique avec de nombreuses activités. Les Bordelais sont sympathiques, c'est donc l'endroit idéal pour pratiquer votre français. Super visite!

My immersion experience in Bordeaux was even better than I imagined it would be! Mrs. French was so patient, encouraging, and thoughtful, and her lessons were always interesting and tailored to my needs. In two weeks time I progressed from speaking in short clips to speaking in full sentences. I highly recommend her as a teacher.

I've just returned from a 10-day intensive course with Sophie and it was wonderful! I've enjoyed every minute of it. Sophie is a very kind, patient and professional teacher. My aim for the course was to improve my speaking skills, and thanks to Sophie's input I've now reached a C1 level in fluency. The days are well-organized, with breakfast together, lessons and voluntary activities in the afternoon. Bordeaux is a great city, with much to explore. The accommodation is very convenient: within 10 minutes of a supermarket or the tramway to Bordeaux centre. There is also a busstop nearly in front of the appartement. Unfortunately I had quite a lot of rain, so I really hope to come back in spring or summer! Thank you so much Sophie, for the wonderful time!

An amazing experience end-to-end.Sophie picked me up and dropped me off at the train station.Apartment is new and complete with everything you need (including laundry) and full privacy.There is a bus stop 20m out front or a 12min walk to tram line B that stops on all the attractions.The day starts with breakfast with Sophie and I got to practice my conversation skills with her. Each day I progressively noticed speaking a little faster and more confidently.Lessons are private so you have her full attention and made it easier for me to grasp some quite challenging grammar in a short time which surprised both of us.I booked two afternoons with Sophie, a visit to the Musee d’Acquitaine and wine tasting in Saint Emilian. Both were great opportunities to practice my conversation and comprehension with her.I would like to do this again but in winter next time.Merci beaucoup Sophie pour tout, tu es un professeur incroyable.

I really enjoyed my time on this immersion course. Very tiring to begin with, but then it settled. And I basically spoke French and nothing else for 6 days. We talked in the mornings and had more formal lessons. (Can't remember the last time I was told to talk more!!) Then I had chosen 3 afternoons to go out to do an expedition. Salvador Dali exhibition in a submarine base, museum of the area and of course (as we were in Bordeaux) the Musee du vin-an extremely well thought out museum discussing all things to do with wine. Sophie worked hard at making sure I learnt a lot, and we had a lot of laughs along the way. The apartment is small, but well equipped and there is even a tiny private garden. I think having one on one tuition was brilliant, as it meant there was no way I could just chat to someone else in english, my confidence grew all the time I was there.

I spent two wonderful weeks with Sophie learning French and exploring Bordeaux. I really enjoyed Talence and my accommodations were very comfortable. Sophie is extremely patient, kind, and so easy to spend two weeks with! We had a wonderful time together, and I felt completely at ease with her. She taught me so much and is a wonderful teacher! I fell in love with Bordeaux and it’s a spectacular place to learn French. I had so many positive experiences. I would highly recommend traveling to Bordeaux and working with Sophie. I would repeat this experience without a doubt and hope to be able to do it again!

My wife and I had a great time with Sophie, not only engaging in a lot of French conversation but also seeing places in and around Bordeaux we would not have otherwise known about. Sophie is easy to get on with and open to ideas to fit in with our interests. We were particularly interested in having conversations rather than textbook based work. This has helped us enormously.
