Follow the Wimereux Communal Cemetery arrow, or the Cimétiere Ancient ... either will get you the Commonwealth cemetery. Google Maps send us down the Rue Mc Crae which led us away from our goal. However, the cemetery is still in use so be respectful when visiting (should always be respectful but still). Lieutenant Colonel McCrae's headstone is in the middle, on the right (when facing the flagpoles) of the cross.#WeShallRememberThem

The CWGC plot forms the lower part of Wimereux Communal Cemetery. Most of the 3000 men and women buried here will have succumbed to their wounds or disease in one of the many hospitals in the Wimereux area.Buried among them is Lt.-Col. John McCrae, author of the poem In Flanders Fields." Also buried here is one of my grandfather's cousins

Visited my great uncle who after fighting had to stay on with the clean up which must of been quite traumatic in its self, he died of an appendicitis and was buried in Wimereux cemetery, One of many life's snuffed out aged 19. Bless em all.

In Flanders fields the poppies growBetween the crosses row on row,That mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below.

Different cemetery. Headstones are lying down on a slope with several terraces along lavender borders. Really beautiful

We came out of our way to visit this cemetery in Wimereux to pay our respects to John McCrae and the other soldiers that found for our freedoms in WWI. Cold and windy on the hill, this cemetery is combined with the local cemetery. Well worth the visit.

This cemetery is the burial site of Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, the Canadian author of the poem In Flanders Fields. Graves of other Canadian soldiers from WWI are also here as well as soldiers from other countries and a fair number of local civilians. It is quite lovely and there is a distant view of the Channel. Be careful when asking locals for directions however as we originally ended up being taken by taxi to another cemetery a bit south of the city (Terlincthun?) which although lovely, was not the right one for me as I was looking for my great uncle. The gardeners at Terlincthun were very helpful however and directed the taxi driver to the Wimereux Communal Cemetery for us.
