Shopping, wine tasting, cooking, laughing and dining with Gilles Conchy of Provence Gourmet was an absolute highlight of a visit to Aix-en-Provence in June. My friend and I met Gilles at the open market, which is spread throughout the old city—an experience in itself as he clearly knows so many producers and talented purveyors, and they clearly know him. He discussed his ideas for the menu with us based on what was in season. After shopping for ingredients (those he doesn’t grow himself), we drove to Chateau Henri Bonnaud and selected 2 wines from the Palette A.O.C. to complement our meal. And then we were off to the rolling countryside, to the large property where Gilles farms and offers private and small group cooking experiences. Provence cuisine is all about letting the full flavors of food shine, with (of course) a little garlic, fresh herbs and a light touch. We cooked a half dozen courses and then talked for a long time over our meal. We walked away with practical skills and an appreciation for Provence food, but just as importantly, feeling special for having spent the time with this engaging and welcoming chef! Unforgettable...

My husband and I booked this cooking class experience on reviews alone and we were not disappointed. Gilles is a wonderful culinary guide, explaining everything as we went along. We went to the local market and hand-picked our ingredients, visited a winery and selected our wine, then spent the next few hours making something wonderful while making new friends along the way. I highly recommend it. It was worth every penny. Thank you Gilles.

We had a wonderful day with Gilles and Provence Gourmet. Touring the market, learning about Provençal products and menu planning was such fun and then taking that knowledge into the kitchen was incredible. Gilles kind and thoughtful nature led to some wonderful conversations and our family of four had a lovely day. Highly recommend.

Our family of four had the most wonderful day with Gilles. First came the stroll through the market gathering the best of ingredients to the various other shops buying the things we needed for the menu he had decided on as he walked through the market before our arrival. We then had a time of wine tasting where we choose the wine we would have with lunch. Then it was off to his lovely home where we had a very hands on experience preparing our 4 course lunch. it is one thing to be able to cook. It is another thing to be able to teach others to cook. Gilles is a master at both. Our lunch was beautiful , bountiful and delicious. Conversation flowed easily among our group of 9. It was a day we will long remember and will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of our trip to southern France. Thank you, Gilles for an unforgettable day.
