A long time ago when my world was still unfolding, I spent 3 years as a military brat in the Eifel mts. We lived off base in a small village of Hosten where we rented a house from frau Mueller. We used to circumvent the cliffs and take a train from Auw downstream to Trier.

I was five or six years old when my dad was in the air force. I lived in bitburg nearby and often went to visit him. I spend time with him in one of the hangars. I got to see planes take off and sat in an F-16 falcon that was usually parked in there. So nostalgic.

I was there from March 1969 until May 1971 Great place to be. Best time of my young life. The exchange rate was 4 Marks to a dollar so beer and food was cheap. I went back a few years ago and it wasn't' the same.

Loved it there. The Anthony's Pizza there was great and I am familiar with Anthony's Pizza because it on every Air Base and Air Force Base. But anyway the C5s, C17s, A10s and F16s there where amazing, I saw the A10s being parked inside the hangars about a couple of years ago... But I can say it was beautiful..

Journée sympa, les cellules et la nourriture sont au top par contre les toilettes sont à éviter(petit manque d hygiène)

Finde ich wirklich Klasse dass die Amerikaner hier sind. Diese füllen die lokalen Haushaltskassen und schaffen gut bezahlte Jobs. Das einzige was ich mir wünschen würde wäre mehr Interoperabilität mit der deutschen Luftwaffe. So nah und doch soweit weg stationiert.

Spangdahlem was great, the only drawback was the weather, I'm spoiled being from Florida. Great food, great people and the historical site are unreal.

My husband was stationed at Spangdahlem from '82 to '85, it was a great experience.Then, there wasn't any of the things I'm now reading about, the commissary was in base housing and, very tiny, the new, bigger one was being built when we left.I imagine a lot of things have changed...is there still a racetrack? We raced there on the oval dirt track.Like I said, it was a great experience, but, I was glad to touch down in Philly three years later.Maybe others, who were there during the same time, will see my name here and, reach out to me!
